BRADFORD BERNSTEIN
Mr. Bernstein joined Spar & Bernstein, P.C. in 1993 after graduating from Brooklyn Law School, where he was a Merit Scholar and earned his J.D. degree. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan with a B.A. in Political Science in 1990. He was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1994 and the New Jersey State Bar in 1993.

The firm was established by his grandfather, Harry Spar, in 1958. Mr. Spar was a known leader and innovator of immigration law during his lengthy career. Mr. Bernstein decided to follow in his grandfather’s footsteps by practicing immigration law in 1993 and then becoming a leader in the field in his own right.

In a relatively short period of time, Mr. Bernstein established himself as one of the top immigration attorneys in the United States. Mr. Bernstein is a guest commentator on the subject of immigration law for the Fox Business News channel and for BBC World Radio.

Since 1999, Mr. Bernstein has been the host of a daily and highly popular, immigration-focused call-in radio show on 93.5 FM, a leading New York radio station that is also broadcast internationally. His show has been made popular for his effervescent sense of humor as well as for his immigration knowledge.

Mr. Bernstein also conducts seminars on immigration, both nationally and internationally. Currently he heads up the Immigration Department of Spar & Bernstein, and is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association. Mr. Bernstein is available for dynamic keynotes and presentations with both domestic and global perspectives on immigration law and issues.

 

MARIANA VAZQUEZ-GARCIA
Mariana Vázquez-García is the Managing Attorney for our firm’s Immigration Department. Over the last fourteen years, Ms. Vázquez-García has focused her practice on all aspects of immigration law, including family-based immigration, employment-based immigration, non-immigrant visas, naturalization, and deportation and removal cases. She is admitted to the New York State Bar and to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. She is also a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association.

Ms. Vázquez-García graduated from the Johns Hopkins University with a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations.  She then earned a Juris Doctor from the George Washington University Law School.  While at the George Washington University Law School, Ms. Vázquez-García was a member of the Immigration Clinic and represented clients before the Immigration Court in Arlington, VA.  Her work at the Immigration Clinic earned her the Richard C. Lewis, Jr., Memorial Award, which is given to a member of the graduating Juris Doctor class who has exhibited extraordinary dedication to his or her work in the Jacob Burns Community Legal Clinics and unusual compassion and humanity toward clients and colleagues.

Ms. Vázquez-García was born in Mexico City, Mexico.  She is fluent in Spanish.
 

 

NANCY POWER
Nancy Power graduated from the State University of New York at Binghamton with a degree in political science. After three years of working with abused and neglected youth in the United States and England, she returned to school and graduated with a Juris Doctor from the City University of New York Law School. Although her practice is now focused almost exclusively on immigration law, she has also represented clients in matrimonial, family and adoption matters. She has been representing clients at Spar & Bernstein for sixteen years.

BINDHU VIJAYAN
Bindhu Vijayan is an associate of our firm. After earning her Bachelor’s Degree from Loyola University Chicago, Ms. Vijayan received her Juris Doctor from New York Law School in 2006. She is licensed to practice law in the State of New York and is also admitted to practice before Federal Court of the Southern District of New York.  She is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association.  Ms. Vijayan understands the needs of immigrants as her family immigrated to the United States. Ms. Vijayan’s family is from Kerala, India and she is fluent in Malayalam.

 

NITA DOBROSHI
Nita Dobroshi was born in Kosovo, in the area formerly known as Yugoslavia.  She is an Associate Attorney with the Immigration Department since 2005. Nita graduated with a Bachelors Degree from Kenyon College in Ohio and earned a Juris Doctor from New York Law School. Nita is admitted to the Supreme Court of the State of New York, Second Judicial Department, United States Courts of Appeals for the First, Second, Third, and Fourth Circuits; and the United States Districts Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. Nita has successfully litigated 3 precedent decisions in the U.S. Court of Appeals: James v. Mukasey, 522 F.3d 250 (2d Cir 2008); Padmore v. Holder, 609 F.3d 62 (2d Cir 2010); Gallimore v. Attorney General of U.S., 619 F.3d 216 (3d Cir 2010). These are published appellate cases which have created rule of law. Nita is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and is fluent in Albanian.
 

 

SHANNON LAGUERRE-MAINGRETTE
Shannon LaGuerre-Maingrette is an Associate Attorney with the Immigration Department since 2008. Shannon graduated with a Bachelors Degree from Syracuse University Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. She earned her Juris Doctor from Hofstra University School of Law. She is admitted to the Florida Bar, United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida, the Second and Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

Prior to practicing law at this firm, Shannon taught health education to at risk youth. She worked at the Florida House of Representatives where she was responsible for drafting legislation pertaining to human trafficking that became state law. Shannon also practiced law at Americans for Immigrant Justice in Miami, Florida concentrating on asylum and criminal waiver cases in Immigration Court. Shannon is a member of the National Association of Women Lawyers and American Immigration Lawyers Association. Shannon is fluent in Creole.
 

 

MELISSA DESVARIEUX
Melissa M. Desvarieux came to the United States in the late nineties from Port-au-Prince, Haiti to attend college in the United States. She is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, and obtained her Juris Doctor from Tulane University School of Law. She was admitted to practice in New York in January 2006 and devotes herself solely to the practice of immigration. She is admitted in the following courts: Southern District of New York, Eastern District of New York and the Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
 

 

KATIE SAE JUNG LEE
Ms. Lee received a B.A. in Political Science from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. She received a J.D. from Trinity International University School of Law in 2005, where she received three Academic Achievement Awards. She received a LL.M, with merit, in International Legal Studies in 2006 from Golden Gate University School of Law.

Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Lee worked as in-house immigration counsel at an IT and Nurse consulting company where she advised and represented foreign nationals in the preparation of employment-based non-immigrant petitions for many Fortune 500 companies with her primary focus being Schedule A petitions for foreign nurses with consular processing and adjustment of status. She is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association. Ms. Lee is admitted to practice in Connecticut. She is fluent in Korean.
 

 

MOONGJUNG JENNY KIM
Ms. Moonjung Jenny Kim is an associate attorney with the Law Offices of Spar & Bernstein, P.C. Ms. Kim practices exclusively in immigration and nationality law. She has extensive experience representing clients in a diverse array of immigration matters including family and employment based immigration, non-immigrant visas, naturalization and removal defense. Ms. Kim is a member of the New York and New Jersey state bars. Prior to joining the Law Offices of Spar & Bernstein, Ms. Kim worked for three years as an attorney in a general practice immigration law firm in New York City.

Ms. Kim graduated cum laude from St. John’s University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government and Politics in 2002. She received her Juris Doctor from Seton Hall University School of Law in 2008. During law school, Ms. Kim performed pro bono work at Seton Hall Law School’s Center for Social Justice where she assisted clients who were victims of civil rights violations.
 

DONNA-ANN AMIR 
Donna works as an immigration law clerk dealing with all types of immigration matters but focusing on adoptions and as the firm’s embassy liaison. Donna graduated from York University in Ontario, Canada with a BA in Philosophy and Law & Society (Honors Program). She graduated with a Juris Doctor from Brooklyn Law School in 2001.
